In September, the inaugural True Texas CattleWoman distinction will honor Texas rancher Missy Bonds during the Texas Coastal CattleWomen Annual Fundraiser Luncheon and Styleshow held at the Lakeside Country Club in Houston, Texas. The event will honor cattlewomen, include a style show from J. McLaughlin, pop-up shopping area, a raffle and silent auction, and more.

Held annually each fall, the Texas Coastal CattleWomen (TCCW) work to raise funds that perpetuate their mission of education and creating awareness of the best protein, beef. The organization has raised and gifted millions of dollars toward that goal through scholarships and donations of beef since its inception in 1987.

“Number one, we want to promote and educate people on beef,” said Claudia Wright, current TCCW president and rancher in Richmond, Texas. “Texas Cattlewomen gives us an excellent platform to reach out to different people and other organizations.”

The base of TCCW has expanded from wives of ranchers to women involved in all facets of the industry. That is reflected in this year’s choice of True Texas CattleWoman honoree, Missy Bonds of Saginaw, Texas. Bonds is the assistant general manager of her family’s cow-calf, stocker and feeding operation, Bonds Ranch.

“Missy is the perfect candidate to honor as our first True Texas CattleWoman,” Wright said. “She is everything you want to be, she is hands on and knows what she is doing. Whether it is cow-calf, stocker, feeding cattle, she knows all facets of the industry. She is so knowledgeable, and I couldn’t be more honored to be involved with the whole process. Missy was our unanimous choice.”

Along with honoring Bonds, TCCW will highlight Outstanding CattleWoman and member Linda Galayda, who is the owner/managing partner of the Jordens Cattle Co./ 7-7 Ranch. Galayda says she is inspired by the TCCW mission to honor and highlight these trueTexas cattlewomen that are working these ranches every day.

“After my dad’s death 24 years ago, I had to take over all the ranch operations,” says Galayda. “It was a tough road at that time because not many women were actually running the day-to-day operations. We have all worked hard to help each other because it is important to see successful cattle women. There are so many gifted women in TCCW who work hard in many capacities to promote the beef industry. They uphold and live out the character of True Texas CattleWomen. What does that mean? Women of integrity and grit, resilience, determination, honesty and hard work. We dedicate ourselves to continuing the legacy and educating others about the heritage and work necessary to sustain these ranching operations.”

The luncheon held September 24 will spotlight Bonds, Galayda and all women working to promote beef. Tables are available for sponsoring, as well as individual seat tickets, and can be purchased at texascoastalcattlewomen.com. Funds raised benefit agriculture-related scholarships and the people that are supporting the beef industry like the Texas Cattle Raisers Association, the Beef Council and the Texas Agriculture Lifetime Leadership (TALL) program through the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at Texas A&M University.

“This is a fun event! Meeting with fellow cattle producers, lifelong friends and building camaraderie is priceless,” said Wright. “While there will be a beef message, the overall energy level for this year’s event is off the page! Molly McAdams with the Texas Beef Council is going to update us. You are going to get a snapshot of the ongoing beef promotion. It is the best protein choice. We hope to see you there!”
