Akaushi, or Japanese Red Wagyu, originated in Japan’s Kumamoto and Kochi prefectures and has been shaped by centuries of selective breeding. Influenced by Simmental, Devon, and Korean Hanwoo, Akaushi differs from Black Wagyu, offering a balance of intense marbling, rich beef flavor, and superior adaptability. These unique traits make them an excellent choice for both purebred and crossbreeding programs, enhancing herd quality & carcass value.
First introduced to the U.S. in the 1970s, the breed expanded significantly in the 1990s, with HearBrand Beef leading efforts to establish a strong genetic foundation. Legendary Akaushi Genetics partnered with HeartBrand and Wagyu Saki to build a rare donor herd, ensuring the preservation and continued advancement of these valuable genetics for generations to come.
